About Generation Alive

Who We Are

Generation Alive Zambia (GAL) is a feminist, youth-led non-governmental organization advancing the rights of women and girls especially in the areas of leadership, gender equality, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

We work to promote equality and fight injustices that prevent women and girls from fully enjoying their rights. At the heart of our mission is the commitment to build the collective voice, power, and influence of young women by enhancing their knowledge and skills to:

  • Make informed choices
  • Participate in decision-making
  • Mobilize their communities
  • Take collective action on issues that affect them

Our work is grounded in a transformative, rights-based feminist approach, focused on:

  • Challenging harmful social norms and unequal power relations
  • Amplifying women’s voices and leadership
  • Building strategic partnerships for sustainable change

We envision a society in which all people—particularly girls and young women—enjoy their human rights and actively participate at all levels of decision-making

In Their Own Words

Real stories from young women whose lives have been transformed by the Power to Girls program.

My name is Ashley Mutamina. I am 17 years old and currently a Grade 12 pupil at Kabulonga Girls. I have been with the Power to Girls for the past 4 years now. Being part of Power to Girls has helped me in so many ways, but one thing that truly stands out is how it has boosted my self-confidence. Before joining, I struggled to speak up, but now, I can express myself openly and confidently. I am able to have honest conversations with my friends about important issues that affect girls, and I feel empowered to use my voice. I encourage everyone to join Power to Girls. It’s a safe, supportive space that can help you build the confidence to speak out and make a difference, just like it has for me.
